SUMMARY:Black Women in the Tudor Court
DESCRIPTION:Come together to watch a film screening of what we have always been: a black Tudor story. The film is a screen dance that explores the lives of a group of people of African descent in early Tudor England. Blending archival research, embodied practice and critical imagination, the film peels back the layers of history to reveal the Tudor world as never seen before. The screening will include a short introduction to the film and a Q&A after.\nCandace Scarborough is a movement artist, historian and PhD student at the University of Roehampton. Her current research explores how embodiment, choreographic process and site performance can support historical enquiry, leading to collaborative relationships between dance, history and heritage. As a performer, she has worked with various artists and companies in the United States. As a historian, her research examines the experiences of marginalised groups in the early Tudor period, with a focus on African presence in England and women’s careers at the Tudor Court.\nThere is a £5 entrance charge, payable at the door. Free entry for full-time students.\n
